IO CAPITANO WINS BEST FILM – David Di Donatello Awards

IO CAPITANO, the riveting migrant drama from Matteo Garrone, won the award for Best Director and Best Film at the 69th David Di Donatello Awards.

The story follows Seydou and Moussa, two Senegalese teenagers who leave their hometown in Dakar to reach Italy and escape their generational poverty.

“Io Capitano” premiered in competition for the Golden Lion at the 80th Venice International Film Festival, where it won the Silver Lion for Matteo Garrone’s direction and the Marcello Mastroianni Award for Seydou Sarr’s performance.

The film – designed by Dimitri Capuani – also received nominations for Best Foreign Language Film at the 81st Golden Globe Awards and Best International Feature Film at the 96th Academy Awards.
